Windfoiling

Windfoiling

Windfoiling is flying along with a hydrofoil as a fin on a windsurfing board…in this case I’m using a Hammer SUP with mast track for attaching the sail rig and a deep Tuttle fin box to attach the foil to the Hammer…

Lots of critical micro-adjustments involved…sailing strapless…making tweaks on adjustable harness line length and placement…sail tuning the draft and twist…rear steering wing adjustment…etc…making progress…the fine tuning tweaks adds to the understanding of all of the dynamics involved…

The wind speed, direction, and quality are also huge factors…especially, the differential between the low and high observed wind speeds…I definitely could have been on a 4.7m2 at times to minimize the effect that the excessive pull in the sail had on the foil…

Very exciting and spectacular crashes keep you very alert…but, the ethereal feeling of gliding thru silky smooth water lets you kinda feel the sensations that dolphins feel on a regular basis…

WD was using a 5.0m2 sail…1m2 Horue carbon foil with medium wind front wing…8’5″ Hammer SUP…

Always fun to include a pit stop at Firestone Brewing…they always bring a little 808 aloha to the 805…;-)

I’m converting my 7’6″ Mallet SUP design that I developed back in 2014 to accept a foil and sail rig…

Several European based kiteboarding companies are bringing similar looking windfoiling boards to the market for 2018…
