Dave Muir’s reputation as an underground charger has gained even more traction lately…after winning the Sapinus Tahiti Pro against the top standup paddle surfers in the world on a stock 9’8″ Starboard, he turned his attention to a gnarly Western Australia reef/point break getting a legitimate shack…deep inside before getting the axe at the end and snapping his board with tons of H20 barreling down on him…
Tama backed Davo up with a performance that was good enough for 2nd place at this event…also, on a stock Starboard 9’8″…
My buddy Scott McKercher, from West Oz, also a ripper in his own right…deserves a nod for coaching and board design for this great result for Team Starboard…

Shipping out the SUP love to all points of the country…

The Coast Guard recently classified “paddleboards”, meaning Stand-Up Paddleboards (SUPs), as “vessels.” The newly classified vessels must comply with federal Navigation Rules and “carriage” requirements when operated beyond the narrow limits of a swimming, surfing or bathing area. Stand-up paddlers need a USCG-approved life jacket for each person, a sound signaling device (whistle), visual distress signals and navigation lights (flashlight).
The same requirements apply to kayaks and other manually propelled vessels of similar size. Stand-up paddleboards are exempt from hull identification number and registration requirements. Enjoy your SUP, but please do so safely and responsibly.
